Story: In an America wracked by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this night plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking. When an intruder breaks into James Sandin's (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide. Written byUniversal Pictures

Synopsis: Its the year 2022. Crime in the USA is at an all-time low of 1% thanks to an annual "Purge" that takes place over 12 hours from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am on March 21. During the Purge, people can commit any crime they wish without fear of consequence against anyone except for 'Category 10' US government officials. The emergency services are not available, so there's no ambulance, police or fire service for those targeted. Critics of the Purge say that it's used by the wealthy and politically elite to target and punish the poor as they're the only people who cant defend themselves.

James Sandin (Ethan Hawke) sells home security systems that lock down peoples houses, keeping them safe during the Purge. He's very successful and has sold security systems to all of his neighbors. As he goes home to get ready for the Purge to start, hes told that he's the number one sales person for his company. He stops just before his house to give some advice to a neighbor on maintaining a security system that he's....... Streaming Full Movie..

The Purge (2013) Review by ncollogan from United States
I am a movie theatre employee, so I saw this film last night at anemployee screening. Going into the movie, I was rather excited. Theconcept is interesting, and has never been done before. While thismovie was not as scary as I had anticipated, I still thoroughly enjoyedit. The antagonists were disturbing, and the movie really shows thestruggle between self-preservation and what's right. It is somewhatshort, but the makers certainly do get the job done. Plenty offlashlight-and-pistol standoffs and suspenseful scenes make for a moviewith an interesting plot, and good acting. The ending was a bitpredictable, but did not ruin the movie in my opinion. Not the bestthat I've seen, but overall a decent flick.

The Purge (2013) Review by Jackson Bigley from Minnesota

I had the unfortunate pleasure of getting to see the movie "The Purge"at the 10 O'clock premiere last night. To be honest, going into it, Ididn't expect much. I didn't really know a lot about the film asidefrom seeing a couple trailers here and there and hearing customersblabber on about how excited they were for this movie (I work at amovie theater). I guess the concept sounded kind of interesting, andreally, I just felt like seeing a movie I hadn't seen yet. Myexpectations were blown away; the movie was worse than I had originallyassumed. "The Purge" pretty much just stinks from beginning to end. However, it does have a few slightly redeeming factors.

Okay, I lied. "The Purge" has only one redeeming factor; and it's howhilariously bad the dialog is. As soon as the movie starts and we areintroduced to Ethan Hawke driving in his car, talking on the phone.Right off the bat I could tell that the script for this movie wasreally poorly written. All the lines sound incredibly forced andunrealistic. For example, when Ethan Hawke first arrives home he sayssomething along the lines of "Hey, hey! what a long day at work!". Allof the characters, especially Ethan Hawke's character, say things onewould never say in real life. This is the one good(ish) thing aboutthis movie. How hilariously terrible the dialog is. I was laughingpretty much throughout, at just about every line. Now, to be fair, other things may have influenced my laughter, or intensified it,rather. But overall the dialog is just completely unrealistic. Realism. That is my biggest issue with this movie: it's lack of realism.

Let us begin with perhaps the most painfully unrealistic part of "ThePurge": the plot. The idea behind this whole futuristic America is thatthe Economy is down and Crime is up. It is just universally acceptedthat the cause of all these problems is built up aggression within thehuman population. In order to correct this, the United StatesGovernment decides that it would be a good idea to give the public aday to "release the aggression". So, one day of each year, they willhave an annual "Purge" where all crime is legal (including murder. Theyput a lot of emphasis on murder being legal). Somehow, magically, thisdoes help the Economy and Crime overall is down for the rest of theyear. Because if people get out all that anger in one day, they willnot feel the need to commit any more crimes for the rest of the year..(yeah.. right..) I'm calling bull sh*t on this one. This would neverEVER never ever ever work or even be considered in real life. Iunderstand that not all movies need to be realistic to be good, butthis movie is kind of trying to go for a realistic feel. It's clearlynot supposed to be a Sci Fi film.

Now, not only is the dialog bad in "The Purge", but so are thecharacters. The main characters throughout the movie consistently makestupid decisions and totally change their opinions in the blink of aneye. But the worst characters of them all have got to be "the badguys". I'm gonna call them "the bad guys" because there were a lot ofthem, and I don't remember their names if they were even given. Withoutspoiling anything (if you still want to see the movie) at one pointthere is a group of people that approach the house to terrorize EthanHawke and his family. This group is heavily armed and set on killingoff the filth of society or "the swine" as their leader constantlycalls them.(He also uses words like "tootaloo" and "folks") For noparticular reason they all wear clown masks, dresses, suits, etc. Theyjump around, act goofy, scream, laugh and play on swing sets... I thinkthis was all meant to make the movie a bit more creepy and eerie, butit just felt forced and left me cringing throughout. There was nothingto justify why they were acting like circus performers.

The ending was disappointing. There are numerous moral issues broughtup throughout the film. None of them are solved. In the end, somepeople die, some people live, and it's just over. It's almost likeJames DeMonaco just gave up, and couldn't figure out how to end themovie in a decent way. So he just threw together a little stupidhumorous bit at the end. I suppose this is to be expected with JamesDeMonaco though. Pretty much every project he has ever touched has beenbad.

"The Purge" is not at all worth seeing. It's not scary. It's notsuspenseful. It's not realistic. It's not well written. It's notanything. It's just terrible.

The Purge (2013) Review by San Toki from United Kingdom
Humans have a natural instinct as predators to kill, but society forcesus to repress these feelings by living in a ''civilized''way....according to new Ethan Hawke led film The Purge, a veryinteresting concept of a film, which explores a future society in whichall crime is allowed for one night a year...

It's 2022 (not actually that far away), and unemployment in America is1%, crime is at an all-time low, and generally, everybody seems happy, especially James Sandin (Hawke), a rich citizen who makes his fortuneselling security systems for houses to use during the annual Purge.Basically the reason why unemployment and crime is so low is because, for one night a year, a Purge occurs, where all crime (murder, raperrobbery, the whole lot) is made legal, and no police or emergencyservices are allowed to interfere. Mad. But also intriguing. James andhis family happily avoid the Purge by using a security system outsidetheir large house while the rest of society kills each other, but allthat changes when their youngest son Charlie decides to let a strangerinto the house......

This starts off as a really captivating film, the concept of legalcrime kept me hooked, but soon enough, it descends into a stereotypicalaction film where Ethan Hawke fights off gangs from his house with avariety of handguns, and all originality gets lost in a haze of bullets(literally). The short running time (85mins) and variety of twistsevery 5 minutes makes sure that it doesn't get too boring, so overall adecent Streaming, but nothing that provokes any thinking afterwards.

6/10- A lesser version of Panic Room
