Story: Old St. Leopold's Hospital has many urban legends surrounding it, but the residents of Bridgeport all agree on one thing: tortured souls roam its abandoned halls. The mystery proves too much for a pretty young student who decides to investigate for her senior class project. Unfortunately, she does not find ghosts. She, instead, finds Stanley... serial rapist, murderer, and psychopath. As the young girl becomes Stanley's new pet, a team of young investigators descend on the hospital to "hunt some ghosts." Stanley sees nothing but fun and games in his future. But, what Stanley does not know is that the hospital truly is haunted and the restless spirits there are not happy with what he has been doing. The Hospital (2013) Review by Steve Hodgson from United States
This movie takes you through a lot (cannot give anything away). Itkeeps you interested and paying attention. Daniel, Jim and John areexcellent in this film. The characters continue to grow throughout thefilm. This is something you rarely see anymore in horror films. Usuallycharacters and plot is one dimensional. Well you will be pleasantlysurprised with The Hospital. Jim and Daniel takes the films throughtwists and turns and keep the viewer interested as to what will happennext. You will see many a horror film actor and actress in this film. The cast is well assembled and play their parts perfectly. This is athrow back to the good old days of scary films. You need to check thisout...you will be glad you did!!

The Hospital (2013) Review by Daniel Bamberg from United States
The latest offering from Deviant Pictures, "The Hospital" is not a filmfor everyone and one which some would suggest should come with avoluntary warning label which reads, "humanity restricted" On thesurface "The Hospital" is sick, disturbing, brutal, depraved andunrelenting. Yet, there is something much deeper and perhaps moresinister going on. Is it all a trick? It is that which behind itsgruesome attempt to out sick the sick list, makes it worthy andmemorable. "The Hospital" is passionately demented and won't so muchshock its viewers, as it will skip the electrocution phase completelyand move swiftly into the stage of sifting through the ashes of one'spsyche. The film is neither a tribute to "I Spit On Your Grave" norclearly inspired by the revenge cult favorite. It does however stickout in one's mind, leaving permanent psychological footprints much likethat film and others like it. Many who view "The Hospital" willautomatically think of torture fetish films like the above stated and"Last House of the Left," or even "Hostel." These however are passivedescriptions. Others will simply stop Streaminging, unwilling to takeanother moment of absolute madness and complete chaos. Meanwhile in itsdisgusting brilliance, the film defeats its viewer no matter thereaction. It is as draining as it is entertaining and as spirited as itis soul ripping. If you endure the chaos you are literally infectedwith some of the most bizarre and disturbing scenes ever captured inlegitimate American film. If you walk out or turn it off, you give intoa psychological weakness. If you complete the experience and arerepulsed the game is then to separate personal opinion of the contentfrom the brilliance of the effort and the effect. Anyone with aconscience will feel like a molasses of debasement has been sucked intohis or her blood stream. The Hospital has a nearly unparalleled abilityto place the viewer in a position to feel as dirty, used, disgusted, and abused as any of its fictional victims. When the film ends weescape the terror as survivors. The psychological damage may only nothold permanently because this is only a movie. Whether or notco-writers/producers/stars Daniel Emery Taylor and Jim O'Rear meant tomake a psychological statement is something, which will likely remain amystery. Regardless of the true intent, the film is unquestionably apsychological statement. How much can you take? If you take it all, what does that say about your character? If you don't try it, isn'tthat submission to a fear of exploring territories within your own mindand soul that you'd never dared before? Finally, if you've completedthe experience and are completely revolted, (as I was) can you separatethe gruesome content from the beauty of the effort? Yes, this filmmakes that sort of impact. It makes that sort of effort. It's madnessparallels the dinner scene in Tobe Hooper's "Texas Chain Saw Massacre,"but its perversions and unrelenting welding of typically unspoken vicessurpass films that are spoken about in the dark closets of fandom orthose currently engraved into Japanese pop culture. Though flawed withsome less than stellar CGI, and a handful of choppy transitionalediting flaws "The Hospital" is a serious horror film for serioushorror fans but could just as easily become required classroom viewingfor college psychology and sociology courses. Though folks whoshouldn't quit their day jobs play some of the smallest roles, thestarring cast put on some of the most unforgettable performances for ahorror film in decades. "The Hospital" is not exactly a masterpiece. Itis a low budget film suffering from most (but not all) problems, whichoccur without deep pockets. Like many of the independent horrors fromthe 1970s and unlike any of the low budget horror films since thatgolden age, it has heart and passion and ultimately stands out abovethe crowd. It is a work of sick art as is made clear in its splendidlyclever, albeit disgusting tribute to the late painter Bob Ross, a scenethat will likely be talked about a decade from now. It is however awork of art nonetheless and stands on credible ground for accomplishingeverything it exists to accomplish. Destined for cult status, "TheHospital" has taken the independent horror game into a differentdirection, breaking all the rules, and serving up a splendidly sadisticbit of vice infested anarchy. I had the pleasure of viewing "TheHospital" at the official U.S. Premiere in Birmingham, Alabama. Afterthe film ended, Daniel Emery Taylor shouted, "And we call it...TheAristocrats." If you get the joke, you should know what you are goinginto as there is perhaps not more an appropriate comparison. Whetheryou ultimately love this film, hate this film, or somehow find yourselfalone on the impossible road in between, you will remember it for along time. You will compare other films to it. You will set standardsand plummets based upon it. Yes, it is that good. Yes, it is thatawful. Yes, it is everything it said it would be, and much, much more.

The Hospital (2013) Review by danbamberg from United States

On the surface, "The Hospital" is sick, disturbing, brutal, depravedand unrelenting. Yet, there is something much deeper and perhaps moresinister going on. Is it all a trick? It is that which, behind itsgruesome attempt to out sick the sick list, makes it worthy andmemorable.

"The Hospital" is passionately demented and won't so much shock itsviewers, as it will skip the electrocution phase completely and moveswiftly into the stage of sifting through the ashes of one's psyche.

If you endure the chaos you are literally infected with some of themost bizarre and disturbing scenes ever captured in legitimate Americanfilm. If you walk out or turn it off, you give into a psychologicalweakness. If you complete the experience and are repulsed the game isthen to separate personal opinion of the content from the brilliance ofthe effort and the effect.

Whether or not co-writers/producers/stars Daniel Emery Taylor and JimO'Rear meant to make a psychological statement is something which willlikely remain a mystery. Regardless of the true intent, the film isunquestionably a psychological statement.

How much can you take? If you take it all, what does that say aboutyour character? If you don't try it, isn't that submission to a fear ofexploring territories within your own mind and soul that you'd neverdared before? Finally, if you've completed the experience and arecompletely revolted, (as I was) can you separate the gruesome contentfrom the beauty of the effort?

Yes, this film makes that sort of impact. It makes that sort of effort.

It's madness parallels the dinner scene in Tobe Hooper's "Texas ChainSaw Massacre," but its perversions and unrelenting welding of typicallyunspoken vices surpass films that are spoken about in the dark closetsof fandom or those currently engraved into Japanese pop culture.

It is two films really. The first half offers a simple little slasherbefore we are unexpectedly taken to places no sane man or woman wouldsign up for in the final half. It's an almost comedic homage filmturned completely on its head to become a potent dark poisoning of themind.

The starring cast put on some of the most unforgettable performancesfor a horror film in decades.

O'Rear has a lot to be proud of. Not only did he co-write andco-produce the film but also he places himself in a role thathighlights his abilities the way that "The Devil's Rejects" highlightedthe ability of Bill Mosley. O'Rear can play a straight guy all day, buthis real talent is hidden beneath a madness that leaps onto the screenin this film. Well known to be extremely friendly, O'Rear does so wellwith his performance that one questions, when shaking his hand, what hewould do if you crossed him in a dark alley on a bad day.

On the male side of the cast, O'Rear is undeniably the standout, butthat is not a discredit to his cast mates. It is simply a huge creditto his previously unseen star power. He plays an initially in-controland humdrum straight guy and suddenly is revealed as an over the topsadist, Alan (a' la Otis Driftwood on a speed binge).

Newcomer, Alicia Clark puts on a victim's performance that is so real,so gut wrenching, and so emotionally raw that I wondered if sheunderwent psychological treatment following production. Without herperformance in the most significant scene of the film the transitionfrom tongue in cheek slasher to dark and brutal psychological warfaredoesn't work as well. Only a handful of actresses working regularlytoday could likely pull off her performance. Most of those have hadmore award nominations than roles. She is a talent to Streaming.

Daniel Emery Taylor also has a tremendous amount to be proud of. Notonly is this film co-written, co-produced and directed by him, he alsoplays the most unusual red herring in film history as the derangedhospital caretaker, Stanley Creech. To suggest Stanley as a mere redherring is perhaps dismissive but considering the film's path, is anaccurate statement.

Taylor has mostly simple lines, as his character is a simple man, butStanley is as sick and perverse as they come, but somehow casts apeculiar amount of sympathy from the audience. Taylor's subtleties innot exaggerating the performance make the over the top idea of Stanleymuch stronger than they would've been played any other way.

The film tackles some of the most disturbing subject matters hanging inthe cobwebs of society, and in some areas it does so respectfully. Inothers it shouts "damn the torpedoes" and sinks to new depths. This isthe genius of the film.

Where has society gone, to what depths? The film doesn't answer thisquestion, but it certainly asks it loudly and proudly.

It has heart and passion and ultimately stands out above the crowd. Itis a work of sick art as is made clear in its splendidly clever, albeitdisgusting tribute to the late painter Bob Ross, a scene that willlikely be talked about a decade from now.

Destined for cult status, "The Hospital" has taken the independenthorror game into a different direction, breaking all the rules, andserving up a splendidly sadistic bit of vice infested anarchy.

Whether you ultimately love this film, hate this film, or somehow findyourself alone on the impossible road in between, you will remember itfor a long time. You will compare other films to it. You will setstandards and plummets based upon it. Yes, it is that good. Yes, it isthat awful. Yes, it is everything it said it would be, and much, muchmore.
